NUREM: Supervision of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in Bujumbura

Posted on 02/12/2019 - Category: Projet AGRs ...

As part of the management of the NUREM project's income-generating activities, Service Yezu Mwiza organizes field visits to check on the progress of activities in micro-projects. It is in this context that the person in charge of monitoring the implementation of these micro-projects carried out field visits on 18 November 2019 in Kanyosha and Nyabiraba commune respectively to assess the evolution of the latter but also to know the challenges faced by the beneficiaries in the implementation of this project.

The beneficiaries visited thank Service Yezu Mwiza for its support and welcome the step already taken. We are on Buyengero in Nyabiraba commune, where Mr. Janvier and his group are carrying out the micro-project of a nursery of eucalyptus plants :

"We chose this nursery project because we found that there is almost no nursery in this community, and since there are often requests for eucalyptus plants, we saw that this is an opportunity to be seized. Our micro project will not only generate the benefits we need, but it will also contribute to protecting the environment by planting trees that will protect our soil from erosion. In addition to that, we have found that working together strengthens our unity, which allows us to look after each other. "Testifies Janvier from Nyabiraba

Same case in Gatare commune Kanyosha, where Evariste and his group started raising small livestock with a short breeding cycle. Happy with the stage at which their breeding has already reached, confided in us:

Supervision of the group that raises small livestock as part of the IGAs on Gatare Hill in the Kanyosha commune "In our group, we chose to raise small livestock including pigs, goats and rabbits. We are happy because our pig put 2 piglets. To maintain the pigs it is not easy but we must persevere as says the proverb "akagumye bagumako" because we know that tomorrow will be better for us and our families. "

In the implementation of the Income Generating Activities, the challenges are not lacking for these beneficiaries: “At the beginning of the micro-projects it was not easy to find the working hours favorable for all, but with more advice and follow-up, despite not living in the same locality, they came to understand and work in symbiosis for common development. If one of the group is sick or has any impediment, he signals other members of the group and their activities continue as usual” adds Jeanine, in charge of monitoring the IGAs

. Note that with the resources on board, Service Yezu Mwiza supports 214 vulnerable beneficiaries grouped into income-generating activities through project NUREM.
